Bayer's Didget - A Diabetes Nintendo DS Plugin

We've had our fair share of WTFs and ZOMGs in handheld consoles, and this one is all too familiar you should count it in.

Bayer's Didget is a game cartridge slash blood glucose meter slash kid rewarder (note: There's no such word as rewarder. Term only being used to emphasize product description). It attaches in the Gameboy Advance cartridge below your Nintendo DS. Actual product description below:

Bayer’s DIDGET™ Blood Glucose Monitoring System

Bayer’s DIDGET™ is the only blood glucose meter that plugs into a Nintendo DS™ or Nintendo DS™ Lite system. This unique meter helps encourage consistent testing with reward points that kids can use to buy items and unlock new game levels. And, since the DIDGET™ meter is based on Bayer’s trusted CONTOUR® system, you know you’re getting a meter that’s reliable.

Features

  • Calculates reward points that kids can use to unlock new levels and buy in-game items.
  • Includes Knock ‘Em Downs™: World’s Fair video game and Mini Game Arcade for use with the Nintendo™ DS and Nintendo™ DS Lite gaming systems.

Two Modes for Kids to Grow

Bayer’s DIDGET™ meter offers two testing levels to grow with your child’s ability and testing routine:

BASIC MODE (L1)

Simple testing right from the start. Just insert the test strip and test.
  • Fast 5-second test time.
  • Small 0.6 μL blood sample.
  • 480 test result memory.
  • Large, easy-to-read display.
  • Ready to test out of the box.
  • No Coding™ technology.
  • Auto detection of control solution.
  • 14-day average.
  • 7-day HI/LO Summary.

ADVANCED MODE (L2)

The same easy testing as Basic Mode plus advanced, customizable features. Advanced Mode supports the need for personalized treatment goals for children.
  • Easy personalization of HI/LO blood glucose target range setting.
  • HI/LO test result summary shows tests above and below your child’s glucose target level.
  • Pre- and post-meal marker helps kids quickly identify tests taken before and after eating.
  • Selectable post-meal reminder can help kids remember to test after meals at a time that works for their routine.
  • 7-, 14- and 30-day averages.

So, yeah. This product is aimed for youngsters right? Are you telling me that our youth now is this unhealthy for a product like this to be released? On the bright side, this makes them youngsters conscious about what they eat so while they're growing up it'll be a habit of them to keep eating healthy. What's cooler is they've even integrated the included game itself to the blood glucose-testing system so that kids can purchase in-game items for consistent blood testing.

Basically this product is cool and makes you say WTF at the same time. I'm not sure if this is GBA compatible though.

'Till my next installment.

  1. Hi there fellow blogger! I made a poll and it is about your bet this coming 2010 election. The survey is very simple, choose your president and vice-president. As you can see, I just want two results, a president and a vice-president, these two are the most important because they are the persons who will finalize everything, from bills, laws, government projects, cabinet officials and other government-related issues. With this I can gather information and make a tally of your votes. Please visit the link to vote. Bloggers’ Choice This Coming 2010 Election
