Nintendo's Satoru Iwata has just announced Pokemon X and Y, a new Pokemon game for the Nintendo 3DS that will be the first in the series to unfold in a 3D world, thanks largely to the console's power.
Pokemon X and Y will launch worldwide at October 2013 and will feature three new starter Pokemons Chespin (grass type), Fennekin (fire type), and Froakie (water type).
If you can recall, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 were released on October 2012 in North America. The total number of Pokemon that exists as of the mentioned games are 649.
