Nokia Introduces Budget--Friendly Asha 501, Sells for $99

Nokia recently unveiled the Asha 501, an entry-level Lumia-esque smartphone that sells for just $99. It runs on the renewed Asha Mobile OS, sports a 3-inch TFT capacitive display, and is boasted to have a 48-day standby battery life (26 days for the dual-SIM model).

First thing noticeable about the Asha 501 is its cute size and the features it borrowed from Nokia's Lumia series. The company sells this as making "high-end design and quality accessible to more people", which is mostly true at best. It also has apps, such as Facebook, that would make any smartphone user feel right at home.

Some of the Asha 501's features is a removable back cover, a 3.2-megapixel rear camera, the FastLane UI, and a dual-SIM capability (for EasySwap dual-SIM models only). Sadly it only operates in 2G, which the company thinks is just fair since this device's target markets won't probably have any access to 3G.

Bottomline, the Nokia Asha 501 is a promising device for the company, and we only hope that they continue with this trajectory—that is, producing more quality devices (with more power under the hood hopefully) at affordable prices.
